Frequently Asked Questions
1. What makes Underwater Green Fishing Lights products different from other lighting systems?
Our lights are specifically designed for night fishing and to attract bait fish in saltwater or freshwater. Our underwater light systems emit the green wavelength that penetrates even the murkiest waters using the most advanced lighting products on the market. We sell the only 1000 watt underwater green fishing light on the market. We use high output LEDs in our overhead fishing lights that are engineered to last in the harshest environments.
2.Why "green" lights? What's the advantage of green wavelength?
The green light wavelength attracts plankton, which draws in baitfish, which in turn draws in larger predator fish by penetrating the water efficiently. This food chain creates higher fish activity around your dock, boat or waterfront. Green provides excellent contrast for underwater illumination.
3. Do your lights work in both saltwater and freshwater?
Yes, our light systems are designed to thrive in both saltwater and freshwater applications. They are great for docks, marinas, lakefronts, canals, and boats.
4. How deep should I mount the underwater light for best results?
For best effectiveness: mount the light 3-6 feet below the surface (or slightly deeper depending on water clarity) so you attract a broad range of fish from surface to mid-depth. If the water is very clear, you may go deeper; in murky water shallower is better.
5. How long should I run the light before expecting results?
We recommend running the light for at least 30 minutes to establish a baitfish presence around the illuminated zone. Once plankton and baitfish are drawn in, predators begin to follow.
6. What kind of installation is required?
Our systems are true “plug-and-play” engineered for easy installation.
-
Ensure the mounting location is 4-6 feet above the water and within 6 feet of a GFCI outlet.
-
A GFCI outlet is required.
7. What’s the warranty & how do I claim it?
We support a manufacturer defect warranty. To initiate a claim you’ll need to fill out the warranty form available on our website.
Important warranty notes: The warranty does not cover modifications by the customer, damage from anchors, propellers, fish hooks and weights, natural disasters (lightning, hurricanes), shipping damage or bulbs that continually trip a GFI.
8. Can I use multiple lights for a larger area?
Yes. Using multiple lights expands the illuminated zone and draws more fish from the surrounding water into the lighting cone. Position them appropriately (distance, spacing, depth) to avoid overlap interference and maximize coverage.
9. Are these lights only for fishing? Or can they be used for decorative dock lighting?
While our core purpose is to attract fish for night fishing, our lights also add dramatic visual appeal to docks, waterfronts, marinas, and boat slips. They therefore serve a dual role: functional fishing attraction + aesthetic underwater accent lighting. We call this “dockscaping.”
10. How do I determine which model or lumen output I need?
When choosing a light system consider:
-
The size of your area (dock length, width, water depth)
-
Water clarity (clear vs turbulent vs tannic)
-
Target fish species (baitfish-attractors vs large predators)
-
Power availability
Contact our team of dockscapers (call 855-443-8548) or use our website’s product pages to match your scenario and we’ll recommend a model optimized for your application.
11. How do I optimize placement for best attraction and safety?
-
Ensure the light is fully submerged (not partially above water).
-
Mount overhead fishing lights at an angle so you’re illuminating where fish will swim — near structure, dock pilings, or channels is ideal.
-
Run the system regularly during the night; best results happen when the light is on before the fish show up.
12. Does running underwater lights affect local wildlife or regulations?
In most cases, underwater fishing‐lights are permitted for recreational use, but it’s always best to check local and state regulations — especially if you are using in protected areas or commercial settings. Responsible use (no glare into neighbors’ properties, minimal disturbance) is recommended.
13. What maintenance is required?
-
Little to no maintenance is required for our light systems to work effectively.
-
Periodically inspect mounts and wiring for corrosion, marine growth, or damage.
-
Ensure the GFCI/breaker remains functional.
14. How quickly will I see results (i.e., fish being attracted)?
You may begin seeing baitfish within 30–60 minutes after turning on the light, depending on water conditions. Predator fish may follow within hours or during repeated nights of operation as the “fish-funnel” builds. Results vary based on water clarity, current, fish population, and light placement.
15. I have an existing dock/boat light system — can I add a UWGFL light?
Yes — our systems are compatible with many existing lighting setups. Ensure the power supply, wiring, and installation area meet the marine-grade requirements. We recommend consulting with our dockscaping team.
